The town wall of Conwy, North Wales was built in 1287 by Edward I
His plan was to conquer Wales by establishing English settlements around Wales - problem was the Welsh did not like that and attacked those settlers frequently. All those settlements had to be turned into castles - those are known as the "Ring of Iron".
