The ruins of Poienari Fortress stand high on a cliff overlooking the Arges River, at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains.
Access to the fortress is made by climbing the 1,480 concrete stairs.
Poenari Fortress was the second home of Vlad Dracula (The Impaler).
One of the legends says that Vlad Ţepeş, being pursued by the Turks, escaped to this Fortress, after he hiked the horses with the reverse horseshoes, thus confusing their pursuers.

Also Vlad wasn't a vampire, but you all know that! Facts about his cruelty were exaggerated by his enemies. Of course Vlad impaled and punished hard, but only thieves, criminals and traitors and war enemies.

If you are near by, maybe visiting Vidraru Lake and Dam, make some time and climb to see the fortress. The sights from up the mountain will take your breath away.

Thank you for watching
