The old Los Angeles Zoo opened in 1912 and closed in 1965. When the zoo closed, the animals were moved to the new zoo about two miles away, but nearly everything else related to the zoo stayed exactly where it was... and more than 50 years later, it's all still there.

To get to the old zoo, head into Griffith Park and find the Merry-Go-Round and head northwest through the nearby parking lot. Cross into the picnic area and turn left (west) before you get to the next road or parking lot. The zoo will be about 50 yards on your left up the hill.

You can visit the zoo to learn more about the animals' normal life in this way! Animals don't have to worry about whether they can afford the rent.
