Top 8 VR Animations and Comic Con Cosplays

Virtual reality has been making waves in the animation and comic realms.

For animators, traditional 2D visual media tend to appear linear and involve locked off shots or camera angles, VR experiences feature multiple vantage points are similar to real-world experiences. This requires animators to think of VR animation from new perspectives, especially when they’re creating large-scale VR experiences.

For comic con organizers, VR offers more possibilities to engage their supporters and communities. Those unable to attend get a chance to take a sneak peak at the event, and those attending can also enjoy a virtual tour to recap their visit to not miss a thing.

Alicia Norman was one of the earliest VR content creators to join VeeR, and has never ceased to amaze us with her gorgeous and fantastic art. “Fantasy Woman” is a segment of her virtual reality series “PORTALZ”, which depicts the love story of Cupid and Psyche for her upcoming film “Journey of Soul”.

Nishiwaki Ayano was also one of the first 3D artists to have published their work on VeeR. He’s known for creating animation using MMD (MikuMikuDance), a 3D animation program developed by Yu Higuchi for vocaloid characters. To learn how to create animation of the same sort, we have published a MMD tutorial for your reference.

Lewd Fraggy is a pretty established channel producing VR Hentai content and VR porn featuring waifus. His content works with all VR HMD’s including HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PSVR, Samsung Gear and Cardboard. He also announced on his VR demo portfolio website that the “golden age of VR waifuism” is near.

He’s also built an interactive experience, the “Waifu Sex Simulator”, on MocuMocuDance, for Vive and Oculus users to be able to physically touch and move their waifu.

Rahn MMD VR is another channel that mainly focus on MMD virtual reality renderings, specifically characteristic camera motions. As they explained, the camera motions were tailor-made for users of PlayStation VR.

Sky Yuki

Sky Yuki (Sirasith Temsrisuk) is a gamer and 3D animator creating MMD videos. The music video “Follow the Leader” is one of the most popular uploads on his channel.

San Diego Comic-Con International is world’s largest multi-genre entertainment and comic convention held annually in San Diego, California, United States.

It was founded as the Golden State Comic Book Convention in 1970 as a single day event, which then evolved into a four-day event (Thursday–Sunday) held in July at the San Diego Convention Center since 2013.

Originally showcasing primarily comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film, television, and similar popular arts, the convention has since included a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including horror, animation, anime, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, and fantasy novels. In 2015, the con entertained 167,000 attendees; tickets for the 2018 SDCC have already sold out.

The Dutch Comic Con is an annual event held on March 31 – April 1 at Jaarbeurs Utrecht. It is a major entertainment convention for fans of comics, manga, cosplay, gaming, movies and TV series.

The MCM London Comic Con (formerly the London MCM Expo) is a fan convention focusing on video games, sci-fi, cosplay & popular media, held in the London Borough of Newham.

The event takes place twice yearly, usually on the last weekend in May and October. The first session in 2018 will be held between May 25 and 27.
